The History
The tale between two cities, thirty-nine years later!

The Naples-Ft. Myers Tennis Challenge was the brainchild of Ted Norris, the original Director of Tennis at the Naples Bath and Tennis Club and a successful real estate developer in Collier County.  Ted's vision was to create a tennis event that would allow our "friendly rivalry" with the Ft. Myers tennis community to come to life.  The first "Challenge" was held at the Bay Club in Pelican Bay (now part of the Naples Grande Resort) in 1981.  Naples won that first event decidedly and has held the edge over the years, but that advantage has been replaced by a very intense rivalry of late.  The Challenge has been held at some of the area's finest tennis facilities in Southwest Florida, including Quail Creek Country Club, Pelican Marsh, Vineyards Country Club, the World Tennis Center, and most recently at Bonita Bay Club.

This year Bonita Bay Club will be hosting the Challenge for the 8th year with Paula Scheb, Director of Sports, taking the reigns again. A very special thanks to all the sponsors that make this tournament an enduring and special sporting event in our area....and to all the players from both teams and spectators who come out and cheer their tennis professionals on!!!
